Masterclass – Michael Twitty

This graphic package was created for Michael W. Twitty‘s Masterclass course, in which he introduces his book The Cooking Gene. In this class, Twitty emphasizes the importance of preserving and promoting family food history, and why everyone should tell their food story.

Chapter Titles

The design incorporates African patterns to express Michael Twitty’s cultural heritage, organic textures representing history and the Cooking Gene book, and engraved images symbolizing American history and miscegenation. Photos and archival images are also included.

Sub-Chapter Titles

The unique patterns used in the graphical package are derived from the traditional textiles of the Mende and Akan people, which Michael Twitty has descended from. By incorporating these traditional patterns, the graphic package is honoring his heritage and celebrating his roots.
